Zac Reid wins Gold in the 1500m Freestyle at the Youth Commonwealth Games.

In the first finals session of the Bahamas Youth Commonwealth Games the young Kiwi swim team have made a statement by winning 6 medals earlier today.

Laticia-Leigh Transom got the medal tally rolling, winning gold in the 200m freestyle with a personal best time of 2.01.56.

"I Took it out easy and gave everything in the last 25 (meters) I haven't done a PB since April last year, so I was stoked," Transom said.

The second gold medal of the day for the Kiwis went to Lewis Clareburt who set a new 18 years New Zealand age group record of 1:49.89 in the 200m freestyle.

Mya Rasmussen took silver in the 200m breaststroke finishing in 2.31.49, just half a second behind winner, England's Layla Black.

A tight finish in the men's 100m breaststroke saw Finn Kennard-Campbell claim a bronze medal with a time of 56.85. The top four swimmers in the final finished within half a second of one another.

Gina Galloway also won bronze in the women's 100m backstroke with a time of 1.02.68.

In the last event of the finals session, Zac Reid won the teams third gold medal in the grueling 1500m freestyle, stopping the clock at 15.40.11.

The six medals from the Kiwi swimmers puts New Zealand in second place on Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games medal table behind England.
